On the afternoon of May 26, 2026, starting at 15:30, the latest session of the Youth Academic Salon of the College of Biomedical Engineering & Instrument Science (CBEIS), Zhejiang University, held as part of the series of activities to enhance graduate students' research capabilities, took place successfully in the first-floor lecture hall of the Zhou Yiqing Science and Technology Building. The salon featured a special invited talk by Dr. Wang Da, Chief Physician, Deputy Secretary of the Zhejiang University Communist Youth League Committee and Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, titled Research on the Construction and Application of a Multimodal Artificial IntelligenceEmpowered Diagnosis and Treatment System for the Full Course of Rectal Cancer.

Dr. Wang gave a systematic overview of the latest advances in applying multimodal artificial intelligence to the full-course diagnosis and treatment of rectal cancer, as well as an intelligent diagnosis and treatment system built on multimodal data. In his talk, he focused on his team's recent achievements at the intersection of medicine and engineering. On the methodological side, the team innovatively integrated multimodal omics dataincluding CT, MRI, pathological imaging, and clinical textovercoming the limitations of single-modality approaches to build a high-precision intelligent predictive model for rectal cancer. On the clinical application side, centered on full-course management, the team proposed a closed-loop solution encompassing early non-invasive screening, prediction of resistance to neoadjuvant therapy, and postoperative prognosis assessment.
