The college of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science of Zhejiang University has been through 40 years since it was founded in 1977. From the beginning of the Faculty of Scientific Experimental Instruments and Engineering, we continued to develop in 40 years. After the integration of four universities in 1998, we combined with the Department of Clinical Engineering of Zhejiang Medical University to form the existing College of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science with two faculties, the faculty of Biomedical Engineering and the faculty of Instrument Science. (The college’s name is also abbreviated as the College of BME&IS).

During the recent years, our college has followed the pace of building a world-class university tightly. We adhered to effective development, giving priority to quality instead of quantity, and finally made remarkable achievements in discipline construction, teaching, scientific research, and talent cultivation. We have been one of the colleges which has the most promising development in our University.

The development of our college can never be achieved without the strong support from the government leaders, the university's departments at all levels and the relevant fraternal colleges. It is also inseparable from the concern of the alumni who had studied or worked in the college, and the unselfishness of the faculty. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders, friends, alumni, teachers and students who helped, cared and supported the development of the college.

In the new historical period, we will persevere with the theme of promoting connotative development, the core of improving the level of academic discipline, the principle of improving the quality of education. We will make every effort to promote the College of BME&IS to a new level. We will emphasize on moral cultivation, and transport students with talents of medical equipment, information technology and other professional talents for the country and the society. We will adhere to the people-oriented team-construction, training expert teachers, and lead the development of disciplines. We will also insist on innovative ways to strengthen scientific research, to enhance the overall scientific research strength of the college, and to make progresses in symbolic scientific research.

I believe that the college of BME&IS of Zhejiang University will be able to recreate brilliant achievements in return for the expectations of all sectors of society.
